Abstract

The waters of Socah, Madura, are an area with potential for shipyard development. The characteristics of the waters of Socah, Madura, are influenced by fairly intensive sedimentation processes and active coastal dynamics. Therefore, planning of navigation channels and dredging of the seabed are required to achieve the necessary depth. The objective of this study is to examine and analyse bathymetric profiles and sediment conditions, as well as to plan shipping channels for shipyards in the waters of Socah, Bangkalan, Madura. Data collection for this study was carried out directly in the field over a period of 15 days. Observations were conducted to obtain data on bathymetry, sediment samples and tidal data. The data obtained was then processed and analysed to design the shipyard channel using the following software: Hypack, AutoCAD, Global Mapper, Microsoft Office, and Oasis Montaj. Through data processing in accordance with IHO S-44 standards, bathymetric data was obtained with a special order TVU; the bathymetric profile of the study area has depths relative to the LWS datum ranging from -0.69mtres to -2.65metres. In addition to bathymetric data, sediment samples were also obtained, which were dominated by Lanau material in the study area. Based on the bathymetric conditions and sediment samples, a channel design was developed with a minimum width of 40.2 m, a minimum turning basin radius of 90 m, and a minimum depth of 5 m. Based on the results and analysis of the study, the study area does not meet the criteria based on the size of the vessels intended to operate there, namely GT1000.
